Science fiction story: "The last pair of eyes"

It’s too late now.
I can’t just go and tell them, “you know something, my eyes are made from human tissue. I just never got round to replacing them”.

They’ll just ask me why I didn’t go earlier.
And how am I supposed to answer that? Am I to tell them that I liked it that way? That I could see well with my real eyes and I didn’t see the point in going to have them removed.

They’ll just say, “Everyone else saw the point, so how come you didn’t see it?”

They’ll be right. What am I say to them?

 They’ll just say, “You do realise that you’re the only one with real eyes still.”

Marilyn Monroe. "The fourth clone" (novel)

150 years after her death, the clone of Marilyn Monroe is again the biggest idol of the world. Everybody (including the clone) believes that the famous star has returned to life. But there are some people who insist that the clone has nothing to do with the real star who has died in 1962. The clone belongs to a company. She is persuaded that she is happy, but in reality the company gains millions of dollars by her exploitation.

Everything changes, when the clone falls in love with Toni. Little by little she discovers the horrible truth. She neglects herself and dies. Toni is persecuted by the company, but the powerful lawyer Baker saves him. Toni , who has seen too mutch during his affair with the clone, is the witness that the lawyer needs. He sues the company. During the trial all the details of the exploitation of the clone come to light. Meanwhile a new clone is growing up in the laboratories of the company. What is the future of this new clone?

The end of the story is a big surprise.
